Protecting Northern Michigan

Stewardship Starts With You

The Muir Foundation works to protect and improve natural spaces across Emmet County and Northern Michigan through hands on environmental stewardship. Many environmental problems occur in places that few people ever see. Illegal dumping sites, neglected river corridors, and damaged habitats often remain untouched because they are remote or lack the attention needed to organize a cleanup. Our work focuses on restoring these overlooked places and helping communities care for the natural landscapes that define Northern Michigan.

Where We Work

The Muir Foundation is based in the Petoskey area and focuses primarily on projects in Emmet County. We also participate in stewardship efforts throughout Northern Michigan, often partnering with other organizations on conservation projects.

What We Do

Removing trash, debris, and hazardous waste from forests, rivers, and remote dumping sites.

Supporting projects that restore natural areas and improve wildlife habitat.

Organizing cleanup efforts that encourage people to care for their Northern Michigan.

Working alongside organizations such as trail groups, watershed groups, and conservation partners.
