Projects
Here's just a small sampling of the natural treasures we've helped preserve over the years.
Adopt-A-Forest
The Adopt-a-Forest volunteer cleanup program was established to protect Michigan's forests in 1991. The program shares the importance of clean and healthy forests, improves recycling and responsible trash disposal and works to stop illegal dumping. The Muir Foundation gathers volunteers and clean up supplies from local groups and businesses to tackle these sites, restoring the forests to their natural state. To date, The Muir Foundation has cleaned up over 1600 pounds of trash through this program.
Adopt-A-Road
Adopt-A-Road in Emmet County is a community initiative where individuals, families, organizations, or businesses take responsibility for keeping a designated stretch of road clean and litter-free. The program helps enhance the beauty of Emmet County and fosters a sense of environmental stewardship among residents and visitors. Over 43 bags of garbage have been collected from the roadside through this program, and a previous highway from prior years.
River Clean Up
In northern Michigan's Emmet, Charlevoix, and Cheboygan counties, a network of rivers, including the Bear River, Jordan River, and Sturgeon River, threads through the landscape. These rivers, essential to our local ecosystem and community, are valued for their natural beauty. Each spring, The Muir Foundation assembles dedicated volunteers for a critical mission: cleaning and safeguarding these beloved waterways. Our efforts include removing litter and hazards like deadfall to preserve the rivers' pristine state, ensuring they remain safe havens for both wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts. Join us in our ongoing commitment to protect and nurture these vital ecosystems, leaving a lasting legacy of environmental stewardship for future generations to enjoy.
